Cranberry Citrus Cocktail

The Perfect Holiday Cocktail

Many of the cranberries we consume are grown in southern Massachusetts and it’s also where Ocean Spray is located. I was making a cranberry ice box cake for our Massachusetts episode (you should check out the YouTube episode & the recipe is on the Destination Special blog page) and built the cocktail at the same time. I was inspired by a recipe I found at Joy Filled Eats and wanted to make my own version.
Great thing about this drink as it works as a tasty mocktail. You don’t need anything extra, just leave out the vodka.

Cranberry Purée
16 oz. fresh or frozen cranberries
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Peel of half an orange
2 whole cloves or pinch of ground clove

Combine cranberries, sugar, water, orange peel and cloves in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Turn heat down slightly and simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring often. We want the cranberries to pop and the mixture to thicken. Strain the cranberry mixture into a bowl using a fine- mesh strainer and allow it to cool.
Refrigerate until you are ready to make your cocktails.

For the Drink:
Cranberry purée
Fresh lemon juice
Orange Vodka
Sparkling Water (I prefer orange, but your choice)
Ice

In a Collins glass, or what ever type of glass you prefer, combine 3 tablespoons cranberry purée, juice of 1/4 of a lemon and 2 ounces vodka. Stir to combine. Top your glass with ice and fill the remainder with sparkling water. Garnish with an orange twist.
