The Perfect Holiday Cocktail
Combine cranberries, sugar, water, orange peel and cloves in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Turn heat down slightly and simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring often. We want the cranberries to pop and the mixture to thicken. Strain the cranberry mixture into a bowl using a fine- mesh strainer and allow it to cool. Refrigerate until you are ready to make your cocktails.
In a Collins glass, or what ever type of glass you prefer, combine 3 tablespoons cranberry purée, juice of 1/4 of a lemon and 2 ounces vodka. Stir to combine. Top your glass with ice and fill the remainder with sparkling water. Garnish with an orange twist.
Many of the cranberries we consume are grown in southern Massachusetts and it’s also where Ocean Spray is located. I was making a cranberry ice box cake for our Massachusetts episode (you should check out the YouTube episode & the recipe is on the Destination Special blog page) and built the cocktail at the same time. I was inspired by a recipe I found at Joy Filled Eats and wanted to make my own version.
Great thing about this drink as it works as a tasty mocktail. You don’t need anything extra, just leave out the vodka.
